Inaugural Scottish aquaculture and animal conference postponed

An inaugural conference on animal health, agritech and aquaculture that was due to be held in Edinburgh later this year has been rescheduled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The A3 Scotland 2020 event, which included visits to other parts of Scotland, was originally scheduled to take place on September 30 and October 1 but has been renamed A3 Scotland 2021 and will now be held on April 21 and 22 next year.

“It is with great regret that we have had to reschedule what promised to be a fantastic international gathering bringing together key organisations across animal health, agritech and aquaculture,” said the organising committee in a post on the Roslin Innovation Centre website.

Safety is priority

“We know there has been huge enthusiasm for the event but the health and safety of our speakers, sponsors and delegates is of our highest priority.

“We are pleased to say that the rescheduled event will offer the same strong programme based around the theme of ‘Transition to Net Zero’, with an exciting and engaging line-up of committed thought leaders from across industry, science and policy.”

A3 Scotland 2021 is a not-for-profit conference for the animal health, agritech and aquaculture (AAA) sectors to encourage innovation, investment and collaboration, the main drivers in the transition to net zero carbon emissions.

The conference will include sessions on each of these themes, across each of the three sub sectors, presented by leading industry speakers.

Optional tours

The main conference will take place in the John McIntyre Conference Centre, located on the University of Edinburgh’s Pollock Halls Campus.

Organisers promise many opportunities for networking, a gala dinner and optional pre and post conference tours of world-renowned science and research facilities in Midlothian, to the south of Edinburgh, and in the Highlands.

An optional pre-conference campus tour on April 20 offers delegates a chance to visit the Roslin Institute and Roslin Innovation Centre at Edinburgh University’s Easter Bush campus; the Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL) and Agricultural Engineering Precision Innovation Centre (Agri-EPI Centre) at Edinburgh Technopole, Penicuik; Moredun Research Institute at Pentlands Science Park, and facilities belonging to Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC).

Opportunities for growth

There is an optional post-conference tour on April 23 which requires an overnight stay and takes in Dundee, Stirling, Oban and/or Inverness.

The tour offers an introduction to opportunities for collaboration, investment and growth in Central, West and Highlands of Scotland, and is hosted by Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE).
