Fish farming camera maker puts the focus on detail

Aquaculture underwater camera specialist Imenco has launched a new cage camera and associated winch and software which it claims are a “quantum leap” for the fish farming industry.

“We are now launching a new feeding camera with the latest technology and with 4K quality, i.e. 4 times higher resolution than hd cameras that we have delivered in the past,” said Imenco Aquaculture vice president Anders Bastholm in a press release.

“High resolution means many pixels. The number of pixels determines the degree of detail you get and thus how good the image quality is. The higher the resolution, the more detail and the sharper the image, which the farmers will greatly appreciate - and which provides opportunities to use the camera for even more functions than before.”

‘Smart’ winch

Bastholm said Imenco had also developed a new winch to control the camera.

“The winch is ‘smart’, making the control of the camera significantly simpler, and it can also be automated,” said Bastholm.

Both products are supported by new software, Imenco Insight.

“Imenco wants to be an open supplier, and we work with many players. This means that our new software can stand alone, it integrates with other systems -and it can also be used with equipment from other suppliers,” explained Bastholm.

Good optics

Assel Ryspayeva and Rebecca P Hovland, who lead Imenco’s aquaculture development team, said: “We look forward to presenting the new product line. We have worked to deliver solid systems with particularly good optics, and now we take it a step further.”

Imenco is headquartered near Haugesund, Norway and also has manufacturing units at Wick in Scotland, where much of its camera equipment is made, and China. It supplies equipment to the renewable energy, oil and gas, marine and naval, and industrial sectors, as well as aquaculture.
